Cello rolls out high-speed connectivity at the Basin Reserve

Cricket fans will have access to free high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity on the Cello Basin Reserve banks for the remainder of the summer.

Cello, the naming rights partner of the Basin Reserve, have completed their installation of high-speed fibre connectivity at the ground, meaning cricket fans will be able to connect for free at all matches.

The Wi-Fi connectivity is a key component of the Basin Reserve Trust and Cello’s partnership, bringing the ground up to speed as a high-quality venue for fans from around the globe.

While cricket will take up much of the Basin’s calendar this summer, there will also be a handful of entertainment, music and food events held this summer which will also have Wi-Fi connectivity available via the Cello partnership.

Cricket Wellington CEO Cam Mitchell said the Wi-Fi connectivity would change the game for fans of cricket and all events held at the Basin.

“The Cello Basin Reserve is a world-renowned venue with a deep history, particularly in cricket, and we’re delighted to have made it a modern, connected venue for fans of cricket, music, food, and entertainment to enjoy.

“We have a massive summer to look forward to at the Basin, with two Test matches, Wine, and Food festival, as well as many corporate events and it’s pleasing to know that we will be able to support all these events with free, high-speed fibre connectivity.

As a modern-day communications company, Cello provides a full suite of network services to support its businesses and help them thrive in a highly connected world. They are a team of specialist architects and engineers that cover the full suite of network services from WAN/SD-WAN and internet to LAN, wi-fi, and Cloud Connectivity.

“We are excited to be associated with a venue that has hosted so many of New Zealand’s finest sporting moments,” said Cello CEO Mark Jurgeleit.

“Cello head office is in Wellington, and many of our staff have spent countless hours at the ground over the years, and to be a sponsor of the Basin and a contributor to its future great moments is a huge source of pride for our people.

“For such an iconic and historic venue, it’s been important that it was treated with respect as it was upgraded, and the efforts of the Wellington City Council, the Basin Reserve Trust and Cricket Wellington have helped retain the Basin’s place as one of the world’s finest cricket venues.

“With the major events being held at the ground in coming months and years, it’s important that organisers, broadcasters, media and fans have access to data services that match the quality of the surroundings, so we’re excited to be able to upgrade the internet and wi-fi networks at the ground to a world-class standard.”

Free wi-fi connectivity at the ground will be available to venue visitors on Friday 24 February.
